Why did Jesus come to earth?  The New Testament is replete with answers.  Jesus came to atone for our sins, to restore our friendship with God, to provide forgiveness for all of our sins, and to give us abundant and eternal life.  Those are just a few answers.  Sometimes lost in the shuffle is this answer: Jesus came to launch the church.  He died, returned to life, ascended to the Father in Heaven, and on the day of Pentecost sent the Holy Spirit in order to fill His followers with Himself so that those followers – the church – could advance His loving and gracious reign throughout the world.  Today, if you are part of a church family, you are in on what God is up to!  Church is not a building we enter or programs we maintain.  Church is the beating heart of Jesus for a broken world.

Where and how did we stray so far off course?  Much of what people call church is not what Jesus had in mind.  Something we go to once or twice a week?  Nope.  Not what Jesus had in mind.  Groups of people progressively devoted to embodying the revolutionary character and ministry of Jesus Christ in the world around them?  Now we are getting somewhere.  Jesus seeks people who are all in, who participate in His body the church with their very lives, and who invest their resources – their time, energy, money, dreams, tears, talents, and gifts in His church.

If you name Susquehanna Baptist Church as your church, that last paragraph is what Jesus expects from you.  The more we become “all in” people, the more this church will become what Jesus had in mind when He gave birth to us nearly fifty years ago.  It delights me to write that we certainly experience a measure of what Jesus had in mind here and now!   I know this to be a very good church, the church I proudly name as the one where I invest myself.  But we have a long ways to go.  Room for improvement is encouraging!  It means the adventure is far from over.

If you are seeking a church, you now know where my passion is as pastor of this church.  Whether you wind up here or somewhere else, do yourself the favor of a lifetime and become one of those “all in” people.  But I hope you give us a long look.  I love who we are and I love even more who we want to become.

May we take Jesus seriously and follow Him wholeheartedly.  Go church go!

The worship and music ministry at Susquehanna Baptist Church includes a variety of expressions that encourage the congregation to seek a growing personal relationship with God.  We present a “blended” worship service which includes traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs. Our music is led by a Praise Team whose members provide leadership for the congregation in corporate worship. At various times throughout the year, we also gather singers to form a choir (including children and adults) which shares music for special worship services.

“The hour is coming, and now is here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him.”  (John 4:23)

The youth group is a great group of teens who enjoy spending time with each other and learning about God. They enjoy going to camp each summer and having lock-ins, occasional parties, and sometimes, even a marshmallow fight. The youth group is very welcoming to new members and strives to make everyone feel at home. They endeavor to have close relationships with God and to discover what He has in store for each of them.  Each Wednesday, we play games and have a mid-week Bible study.  We are currently studying the life of Christ on Sunday mornings and welcome you to join us on a Sunday or Wednesday!

A picture will be coming soon!

Our school is a Christian school with teachers who love and feel led to teach 3 and 4 year-old children.  We strive to show God's love to each child.  Our classes begin each day with prayer and the pledge of allegiance.  We include music, letter learning, numbers, and group time.  We help each child feel special and important in God's world.  Anyone wanting more information, please contact the church office or come by and visit our school.
